How to find someone on TikTok
TikTok is the hardest of the big platforms to search deliberately. The whole product is built to push content at you rather than let you go looking for it, and the in-app search rewards popularity, not precision. These are the ways around that.
1. Face search first
TikTok profile pictures and many videos are reachable from the open web, which means a face search can return a TikTok profile you would never surface by scrolling. This works even when the display name is nothing like the person's real name, which on TikTok is most of the time.
2. Search the handle off-platform
TikTok handles leak everywhere: Instagram bios, YouTube descriptions, Linktree pages, Discord servers. Searching a handle fragment on the open web is far more effective than searching it inside TikTok, where the results are ranked by follower count rather than match quality.
3. Use the site-restricted search
site:tiktok.com "@handlefragment"
Also try the person's full name in quotes with the site restriction. TikTok pages carry the display name in the title tag, so an exact-phrase search sometimes lands directly on the profile.
4. Work the sound and the hashtag
If you have a video rather than a photo, tap through to the sound. The sound page lists other videos using it, and if the clip is from a small local trend the list will be short enough to scan. The same trick works with a niche hashtag: the smaller the tag, the more useful it is.
5. Look at who they duet and stitch
Duets and stitches are explicit links between accounts. If you can find one person in the circle, their duet history is a map of the rest of it.
6. Comments are the underrated route
People comment on the same creators repeatedly. If you know two creators the person follows, scanning recent comment sections for the handle fragment is slow but often works where everything else failed.
What you cannot do
You cannot see a private TikTok account's videos, and no tool that claims otherwise is telling the truth. You also cannot search TikTok by uploading a photo inside the app; the platform has never offered that, which is precisely why an external face search is the route that works.
Reading what you find
A TikTok account is weak evidence on its own: handles are disposable and display names change weekly. Treat a TikTok hit as a pointer to check against a sturdier source, an Instagram with years of history or a LinkedIn tied to an employer, rather than as an answer in itself.
